The only problem you might face is buying a gift card at a store the recipient doesn't care for. But, there are easy ways around that problem.
The first thing you need to do decide what amount you would like to spend. There are many companies on the web that will make a gift card for ANY amount you wish. That means you are not trapped into set increments.
If you do not know the person very well that you are buying the gift card for, you might want to stick to the basics: large nationwide stores, on-line shopping sites, movie theaters or restaurants. Almost every large retailer now has a kiosk with dozens of options to chose from. There are even companies on-line where you buy the gift card and the recipient has 100 places to choose from.
With all of the cool technology out there, gift cards have become high tech and are as easy to use as a credit card. While they are easy to use, they are easy to lose as well. A few down sides to gift cards are:
· They can be lost or stolen and cannot be replaced. Treat them like cash.
· Check the card before you purchase to make sure it hasn’t been altered. Some cards have unique codes on the back protected by a scratch-off. It’s best to make sure this hasn’t been removed.
· Some merchants charge a monthly service fee if they are not used by a certain date. This eats the balance. Look for cards that have no fee and do not expire.
Gift Cards have come a long way since the days of the old paper gift certificate. It's a great choice for that hard to shop for person.
